Hmm…Very interesting list of laptops. Any reasons why you rank the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon as your top recommendation? Is it because it’s more cost effective or what?
Hey Jerry. I personally wouldn’t list the Lenovo ThinkPad as my top recommendation because I need a more powerful work station as I am an engineer and have some demanding software. The Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon came up significantly more times in in other top laptop reviews for 2018. That is the only reason I have it in the top spot. I hope that helps and clears this up.
This list is not created by a set of specific criteria and strenuous testing, rather it is my compilation of many other top laptop reviews for 2018. I personally like the Dell Precision 5520 since it is more powerful and is better suited as a work station.
So many choices! I do need a laptop. Right now I have a Microsoft Surface (the first one with the small screen). I really do want something with a larger screen and the keypad is not optimal either. You have a lot of choices. Which one would you recommend as being the best budget pick with a good size screen?
The Dell XPS 15 is around $1200 with a 15.6″ screen. I personally wouldn’t go smaller than a 15″ screen. The Dell Latitude is also a good buy, also near $1200 but with a slightly smaller 14.0″ screen. I don’t mean to keep bringing up Dell here but they Dell Inspiron 15 7000 with a 15.6″ screen, also for about $1200 is another good buy. This one will be slightly heavier and thicker as it has dual fans and is better for gaming.
Many of the others have either smaller screens than I like or are closer to the $2000 dollar price range. You can always get a great laptop with the i5 core processor instead of the i7 which will get you a great laptop at a significantly reduced price.
Great post! My husband has an older Mac Pro and we have loved it. It is about 8 years old now though, and it is suffering a bit. I got a cheaper computer to have for myself because I figured I didn’t need a MacBook, but I wish I had just spent the extra money now!! They really are great laptops.
You are another person I can add to my list of people who love the MacBook Pro. That seals the deal for me. I will make the MacBook one of my next purchases.
Thanks for the comment and a great reference for the MacBook Pro.
This is great! I definitely am still sporting my MacBook Air and need to update to a Pro ASAP! – Though this info is great for other options that I totally didn’t even think of!
I currently use the Dell Precision 5520, as it was my companies choice for me, which has turned out to be very powerful. I recently bought a Dell Inspiron for my son who is mostly focused on college. There are so many different types of laptops on the market but this list is really great to help people find about anything they need based on their unique situations. I’m glad this list has helped you.
Hey, Rick, great article. I use a Lenovo Ideapad with a touchscreen for work, but lately I have been interested in getting a new computer since mine seems to lack the resources I need for several tasks.
I like the apple macbook pro, the touchscreen is a nice feature I look for on computers.
The specs don’t look bad either, I will definitely take a look at that model.
That MacBook Pro sure seems to get a lot of great reviews and everyone I know who has it, absolutely loves it. It makes me want to get one in the future. Stop back by and let me know if you get the MacBook Pro and if you really end up liking it.
